Google has just announced Google Fiber, a broadband service and interactive television provider that will offer internet speeds up to 100x faster than average broadband. Google promises adopters will enjoy download speeds of 1 GBps. That should be fine for, well, just about anything you can think of: HD movies, gaming, downloading cat pictures… or doing all of them at once, 40 times over. Google says you could record up to eight programs at once, and will offer you 2 terabytes of storage.
The service will apparently offer free internet 5 mps, which is actually fast enough for most people’s purposes. The blazing super-speed will cost you $70 a month, which seems reasonable enough.
The bad news: Right now, the service is only available in Kansas City.
